MCS Recruiting and Hiring Program/Substitute Workers

 Upon review of your application, qualified candidates will be contacted with the following necessary steps: 

  • Scheduled interview
  • Satisfactory background check performed
  • Attend orientation meeting (the meetings typically last 2-3 hours and you will be compensated for your attendance: $32.50)
  • Fulfill required online training requirements

*Former MCS Cafeteria Employees will be paid an hourly rate of pay based on their experience level with MCS (max of 5 years).

Substitute Worker Pay Scale 2021-2022

• Substitute Teacher (Non-Certified)  -- Half Day - $32.50 -- Full Day - $65.00

• Substitute Teacher(Certified Teacher (TN or Retired MCS Teacher)  -- Half Day - $40.00 -- Full Day - $80.00

• Substitute Cook *  -- Hourly - $9.00

• Substitute Bus Driver  -- Half Day - $27.00 -- Full Day - $54.00

• Substitute Custodian  -- Hourly - $9.00

• Substitute Nurse (LPN & RN)  -- Hourly - $15.00

*Former MCS Cafeteria Employees will be paid an hourly rate of pay based on their experience level with MCS (max of 5 years).

Eligibility requirements for Substitute Workers: Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age

Eligibility requirements for Substitute Teachers: You must be eighteen (18) years of age to work as a substitute teacher in grades PreK-5. Substitute teachers working in grades 6-8 must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age or enrolled in a teacher education preparation program through a partnering college/university.  (Proof of enrollment or recommendation from program advisor is required.) 

No person shall be employed:

  1. Who has any contagious or communicable disease in such form that might endanger the health of the children;
  2. Who has been identified by the Department of Children’s Services as a perpetrator of child abuse, severe child abuse, child sexual abuse, or child neglect, or who poses an immediate threat to the health, safety, or welfare of children;
  3. Who is listed on the state’s abuse of vulnerable persons registry maintained by the Department of Health;
  4. Who has not complied with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986;
  5. Who fails to make a full disclosure of any prior criminal record and any prior dismissals from employment for cause; 
  6. Who does not receive a satisfactory background check.
