After working closely with the Athens Police Department and the McMinn County Sheriff’s Office, it was determined that the situation no longer posed a threat, and the Secure status has now been lifted.
All school operations have returned to normal. Our staff and School Resource Officers remain focused on student safety and will continue to take any necessary precautions moving forward.
Thank you for your continued support and trust.
Dear Parents and Guardians;
This morning, McMinn County Schools was notified of a potentially armed suspect on the run in connection with an overnight criminal investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, we have placed our schools under a Secure status.
What does "Secure" mean?
A Secure Action is taken when there is a potential threat or hazard outside the school building. All students and staff are brought inside, and all exterior doors are locked to secure the building. Please note: Classes are continuing as normal inside.
Instruction is not interrupted, and students remain safe and supervised.
If needed, access to and from the building will be limited and monitored by our School Resource Officer (SRO) to ensure everyone's safety
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed of any updates.
Thank you for your continued support and trust.
Sincerely,
McMinn County School District
