This month's guidance lessons centered around bullying prevention and how to be an empathetic, kind friend! Middle school competed in games such as Bullying Breakout Rooms while younger grades read SEL-based books and completed corresponding activities. Our goal at EKB is to "Be Buddies, Not Bullies!"

FCA met last Friday for the first time this school year, and a total of 37 students attended.

Mr. Privett did a great job as he led the devotion one last time! Friday was his last day at E.K. Baker, and Mr. Privett will be missed. He did a great job teaching, coaching basketball , and helping with FCA during his time at E.K. Baker. He left a positive impact on many students and faculty.

Thank you for everything Mr. Privett! Enjoy your retirement!

Mrs. Adrienne's class hosted their first lemonade stand on wheels today! Through this new life skills activity, faculty and staff placed orders for either pink or regular lemonade. Then, the students made the lemonade, read the orders, and filled them. The students wheeled the cart around to the classrooms and made the lemonade with a smile. We are excited to learn new life skills this year at EKB!

EK Baker receives $5,000.00 grant for Robotics!

EK Baker (Mrs. Sliger) submitted a grant proposal for the TVA STEM Robotics Awards, sponsored by TVA and BVI and administered by the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN – Battelle). Nearly 300 applications, requesting over $1 million in funding were submitted—a testament to the incredible commitment to expanding robotics programs across our communities. The proposal for E.K. Baker Elementary was selected for funding in the amount of $5000! (the maximum award amount available.) A big thank you to Mrs. Sliger for taking the opportunity to further enrich and expand our students' education. Mrs. Sliger and Mr. Conner will be working with our middle school students as we venture into robotics.

Our K-5 Attendance Contest is now underway! Homerooms will earn letters for each day there is perfect attendance; once they earn all the letters in their word, they will receive a prize! We are excited to see which class can earn all the words first.

Attendance is vital for educational success. It is important for students to consistently attend school so they can receive the best education possible here at EKB! We look forward to seeing our students each day this year!

Our NEW music theory enrichment class is off to a great start. Sixth grade students can be seen using rhythm sticks, learning to read music, and playing the piano. Mrs. Malone has a passion for music, and this enrichment class allows her to move beyond mathematics and share her passion with her students. Great things are continuing to happen at EKB!

Yesterday, our middle school yellow jackets were introduced to a new program at EKB called Hives. Our Hives consist of four teams: Gnosi (Knowledge), Telos (Purpose), Ethos (Character), and Arete (Excellence). All middle school students were divided into the four different Hives during an assembly. Students can earn or lose points for their Hive in an effort to win big rewards at mid-terms or at the end of each nine week grading period. On Friday, we had an intense competition to launch our Hives, and the ETHOS hive won the battle! Our yellow jackets were excited! We share their excitement in creating a way to push students toward academic excellence, strong attendance, purpose, and honorable character! Go Yellow Jackets!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This morning, McMinn County Schools was notified of a potentially armed suspect on the run in connection with an overnight criminal investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, we have placed our schools under a Secure status.

What does "Secure" mean?
A Secure Action is taken when there is a potential threat or hazard outside the school building. All students and staff are brought inside, and all exterior doors are locked to secure the building. Please note: Classes are continuing as normal inside. Instruction is not interrupted, and students remain safe and supervised.

If needed, access to and from the building will be limited and monitored by our School Resource Officer (SRO) to ensure everyone's safety.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed of any updates.

Thank you for your continued support and trust.

Sincerely,
McMinn County School District
