As we continue to honor the life and legacy of our Director of Schools, Dr. Julie Goodin, we want to share the following updates for next week:
Monday, October 27, 2025: Schools will be in regular session
Tuesday, October 28, and Wednesday, October 29, 2025: Schools will be closed to allow staff and families to attend services for Dr.
McMinn County Schools will return to our regular schedule on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
We appreciate your understanding and support as our school community comes together during this difficult time. Full details on out website.
Dear Staff and Families,
It is with a great deal of sadness that we share that our Director of Schools, Dr. Julie Goodin, has passed away unexpectedly.
Dr. Goodin assumed the leadership of our school system this past July after previously serving in numerous other roles. She was an incredibly talented and driven leader who cared deeply about our students, staff, and families. Her vision and dedication to strengthening our schools have left a lasting impact on our community. She will be dearly missed.
We understand that this news will bring a range of emotions for many in our school community. Support services will be available for students and staff who may need assistance in the days ahead. We also will share additional information about memorial opportunities as soon as they become available.
Out of respect and to allow our staff and students time to grieve, schools and the district office will be closed on Friday, October 24th. This day will be an optional professional development day across the district to allow our faculty and staff time to gather, receive grief counseling, and lean on one another. Additional information and counseling resources will be available on our website. www.mcminnschools.com
As we grieve this tremendous loss, we ask that you join us in keeping Dr. Goodin’s family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Thank you for your continued care and compassion as we support one another.
Sincerely,
Melasawn Knight
Assistant Director Of Schools
📢Exciting News from McMinn County Schools!
Beginning in November, we are thrilled to announce our new partnership with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital to bring telehealth services directly to our students at the following schools:
🏫 Calhoun Elementary
🏫 E.K. Baker Elementary
🏫 Mountain View Elementary
🏫 Rogers Creek Elementary
🏫 McMinn County High School
🏫 Central High School
Through this partnership, students will have access to timely medical care during the school day — with the help of our school nurses and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital medical professionals.
🩺 Please note: A parent or guardian must provide consent before a telehealth visit can take place. A school nurse will always contact the parent or guardian before a telehealth visit is initiated to confirm that it’s the desired choice for care.

We look forward to supporting the health and well-being of our students through this exciting new program starting in November! 💙
📣 Stay tuned for more updates at your child’s school!
